I'm doing the belts on my 85.5na and found it has a spring tensioner on it, instead of the expected cam tensioner.
I don't think the spring tensioner was installed correctly originaly, as it now is fully extended and the cam belt is really loose. (Slaps the sides with engine speed change) Does anyone have an exploded view of this thing (spring tensioner) before I pull it apart, so I can make sure all in put back together correctly? |

I'd be very reluctant to disassemble the spring tensioner. The preload on the tensioner spring is calibrated. You can however, get the tensioner off. There are 3 12mm nuts that are very hard to see that hold the tensioner to the block. These are NOT the two nuts you can see.
Before you do that, loosen both of the nuts you can see and see if the tensioner arm moves out to the belt and everything get's tight. It is designed to use the spring to tension the belt and then be locked down by tightening the nuts. If you take it off, I suggest you replace all the tensioner rollers for the cam and balancer belts while it's apart. Then you have the whole belt timing/tensioning thing to look forward to. Fix the cam belt NOW. Do not delay. Bob S. (the other one) |
