87 944 ignition wiring problem
I recently purchased an 87 944 in great condition with 63,000 miles. Everything is working perfectly, except that while the vehicle was in storage at a garage in NYC, one of the employees tried to hot-wire the car. There is no damage to the ignition switch or the dash, but the wires that connect to the ignition switch were pulled out and bundled together.
My question for you is do you know where I can find a wiring diagram of the ignition switch so I can put the color coded wires back in correctly? I bought the repair manual and it has the diagram, but no color coding for the wires. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time! Tony |

Hopefully this twisting together of the wires didn't burn something out under the dash.
You need to get your hands on the factory manuals. Has all of the electrical in it. To get to the switch and the wiring you are going to have to dissassemble a few things pulling the entire switch unit out. Once you have it hanging below the dash you can get out the soldering gun and shrink tubing and just match wire size and color.

Hugh,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to try to get my hands on one tomorrow. Do you think AllData would have the info as well? I can access it at my local library. Thanks for the help! Tony |

hmmm...
Tony, where is this car? (I'm at 49th and Park) I mean I'm sure Hugh doesn't want to be accused of aiding and abetting...and after all, it appears you blew off my query unless you want to give us your real details of course care to share the VIN?

Oh how machiavellian, really would someone stealing a car from a garage take the time to register and then reply, I doubt it.
Anyway Tony, welcome! I have the shop manual you need on CD, if you have a high speed connection I can FTP it to you. Or of course I could drop a copy in the "snail mail" box for you. Have to try and help ouy my fellow "new yorker's" Even if I don't live there anymnore.

well it was supposed to be a joke at first...
I just know I've left my car in a parking garage for 12 months when I was in Tokyo I wudda been upset if it was gone and parted out when I returned (and really upset if a Porsche forum had helped) I'm here to help if we get details...he can PM me if he wants btw...it takes 60 seconds to register and your real identity is next to impossible to be found out...and it takes 60 seconds to boost a 944 and we all have given info out (me included) that in retrospect we may want to examine am I alone on this? should we be careful of people when their very first post is how to a start a Porsche without a key (he doesn't say he has a key) he says he has the wiring apart...a schematic of sorts...and needs to know what connects to what opinions please

interesting...not a word back...
and I have all the info he's looking for and I'm in NYC ! ...'here to help'... and btw... Mach•i•a•vel•li•an Pronunciation: (mak"E-u-vel'E-un), [key] —adj. 1. of, like, or befitting Machiavelli. 2. being or acting in accordance with the principles of government analyzed in Machiavelli's The Prince, in which political expediency is placed above morality and the use of craft and deceit to maintain the authority and carry out the policies of a ruler is described. 3. characterized by subtle or unscrupulous cunning, deception, expediency, or dishonesty: He resorted to Machiavellian tactics in order to get ahead. not a good match...this isn't about "getting ahead" in politics or management...where the term is most common seriously...would you let this guy park your car...and go on a long trip?

well, I guess it's the same freedom of speech issue. it's not whether you have information, but whether you use it illegally that matters.
