how reliable is the auto tenstioner on an 87 N/A 944?
and will a 83 AFM work with a 87 DME?

will be dropping my new engine in tomarrow or the next day:)

You need to keep the DME stuff from the 84. This is most everything from the head up.

The DME design for the 87 has slight but significant changes that will cause problems.

The AFS has a different voltage and resistence curve.

The throttle bypass valve is different.

The temp sender for the temp gauge is different (but can be used with a bit of wire juggling).

You have to keep the oil filler/breather from the 87.

As to the auto tensioner; it's an improvement but still requires setting and changing of the belts every 15,000 to 20,000 miles to be safe.

I just kept everything DME for my 83 when I put the 86 engine in it. Runs strong!
