Post No oil pressure...

Group,
Valve job complete. New injectors, valves, guides, resurfaced head.
Assembled, added oil.

Removed plugs and DME relay.

Cranked via starter for 3x 15 seconds, no oil pressure.

Removed oil filter. Oil on outside holes, but not center hole.
Put oil in center hole, only took a little, then was full.

Cranked via starter 2x 35 seconds, no oil pressure.

Put in plugs, started. Ran for 1 minute, no pressure and noise from lifters.

Can I assume oil pressure valve stuck at this point? Car didn't run for a year while the head was being repaired.

How do you get at / fix the OPV?

SO CLOSE!! It starts!

Brian

It takes a number of times it took me about 10 times to finally get pressure.

I would not think the PRV is stuck just yet....

You did right by pouring some oil where the oil filter goes.... (priming the oil pump)

I would not be running with no oil pressure.....

Go back and crank her a few more times....

I agree with ae, to a pt. The OPRV is a simple thing to take out and inspect, go ahead and do it. If nothing is amiss there, make sure oil level is sufficient. If you have access to press. air, go ahead and give the crank case a little air pressure. Stick the nozzle in the dipstick hole or the Oil fill hole, and cranck it while siad pressure is applied. Don't use a lot, not more that 14 or so psi. This helps prime the pump and gets things moving.

Is the oil filter new? What brand?

I had to change the one on the donor engine to get pressure. Spark plugs out and losts of cranking. Donor engine has the new type oil pressure relief valve. Funny headed "bolt" next to oil filter.

Brian, add your cars model and year to your signiture line. Helps the rest of us in answering your questions.

priming pump...

I read in an earlier post that it can take up to 7 quarts of oil to prime the pump? I have the normal, top of the dipstick oil level now. Should I add more?
