Brake Upgrade

Hey question. I am working on my brake upgrade. The first thing I found was that the front brakes off of a 87 951 don't fit on a 87 944S. Anyone know where I can buy some spindles? Are they for sell here @ Pelican?

Also, I have purchased new rims as well (255) and need spacers on the back, but I'm thinking the stock bolts will be too short. I see they have longer bolts for sell on here, can I just buy those or do I need the spacer/adapter kits? If so, how much space do I need for proper clearance?

Thanks.

buying the spindles new are $600 to $ 800 each I've heard. You might want to try either 944 ecology in NY or what used to be PAP in GA (Think it is Geraman Auto Dismatantlers or somrthing like that now) for used ones since you are on east coast.

What is the difference in backspacing your old rims & the new ones. This might give you an ideaof what spacers & studs you need. For a try, you can get some of the GN 5" bolt pattern round track spacers (Maybe Speedomotive?). They are a lot cheaper than Porsche Spacers & can give you an idea of how thick you need. 25.4 mm = 1 ".

Sternn. I just upgraded my 87 944S braked to 951 brakes. I found a pair of front hubs/spindles for $200. look around, and with a little patience you can find a good price on these. I have 255's on the back of my car without spacers.
What offset are the rims your are getting and what size are they?

My rims are 933 "Cup" rims. these are 7 or 7 1/2 in front and 9 in the rear.

So the spindles did have to be replaced? I looked here on PP and they have 944S and 951 spindles listed as the same parts.

As far as the rims I have I have turbo twists:

Front: 7" 55mm offset (running Pirelli PZero Direzionale 205/50/17)
Rear: 9" 55mm offset (running Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico 255/40/17)

Got these kick ass new rims off a 996 and awesome new PZeros and need to get them on. Ross - your running 9" in the rear - whats your offset? Are they scraping?

Just talked with my shop guy. He's telling me the bolt holes on the spindle are about 3" apart while the bolt holes on the calipers are about 4" apart. Thats why he says I need some new spindles. Anyone know about this?

Also, He is lining up the new wheels and doing a fender measurement to make sure the size of the new spacers. He says as Ross pointed out they 'may' fit without spacers and 'may' not scrape, but says they look better and appear to fit a little better with 1" spacers.

Anyone know why using spacers or not using spacers would have any advantage here?

Thanks again for the help.

The space between the caliper mounting holes is the reason why the 951 spindles are needed. Thw rims are 55 mm offset i believe. I can check on that though.

I saw where someone mentioned an adapter kit that would let the big red fit on normal 87/88 spindles. Anyone know where to find one of these kits, if they are worth it, and what the advantage/disadvantage of using one of these kits would be?
