Ok, here is the problem. I have an '83 944 and the reverse lights and outside mirrows don't work. Something is shortening them out. They both run off the same fuse and everytime I put a fuse in, it gets blown right away. What should I check first?

Your mirrors have motors in them I assume. Odds are that a motor or control switch has shorted out so I would look there first. Can you pop the switch out of your console and disconnect it? Then check at the fuse box to see if it is still grounded. Sounds like you have little to no resistance between hot leg of fuse and car body which is ground. You could also remove the wires from the taillights just in case they are the culprits and do another check at fuse box.
It could also be the switch for the backup lights. It could be shorted out. Maybe its wire came off and is grounding on the body. Good luck. Unless this is a common problem and someone on list has had it happen, you're going to have to trial and error it. An ohm meter would be very helpful. |
