Well This Sunday I finished my clutch on my 85.5 na. I purchased the spring centered upgrade clutch and it works great! On another note my intermitten dying condition has also cleared up. I found a ton of gunk on reference and speed sensors, cleand them and the stalling has stopped. Again thanks everyone for all the tech support. Attached is a picture of the old rubber center clutch. It was completely seperated and chunks of rubber were all over the inside of the bell housing. Thought I would post this pic for all the people who asked me what the symptopms of the failed rubber center clutch are.

How many miles did you have on the clock when the OEM clutch finally gave in? Mine's also original so I suspect it going south any day now.

What about the gear shift linkage? Does that come out for a clutch job? I am planning to put one in my 86 na this summer. I had a shop put one in (rubber centered)at 77,000 miles and I have 199,000 on it now, mostly highway driving. It still works good but summer is only time I have to work on it. You got any tips for someone that hasn't done one before?
Did you put in a new pressure plate and throughout bearing? Would you recommend the spring disc? Is it smooth with it? thanks dan |

Good for you. Quite a feeling of satisfaction (and beating the system), no doubt.

I replaced the clutch, and pressure plate. Had the flywheel surfaced and replaced the fly wheel bolts and fly seal. Also the needle bearings on the throw-out fork.
To answer the linkage question, yes and no. You have to disconnect the shift rod from transmission and from the stick and shove it forward under the center console so you can clear the transmission. I used the process listed at the 944 garage, it was fantastic. |
