Oil cooler housing job -- got issues!!
Hello all,
I swapped out a cracked oil cooler housing yesterday and when I completed the job I ended up with a couple of unexpected symptoms. After starting and running the car for a minute or so water begins streaming from the coolant resovoir overflow hose. Also, the oil pressure dummy light comes on and stay lit. There is plenty of oil in the pan. Obviously I've done something wrong in the process of swapping cooler housings. Any thoughts? Has anyones else run into this problem? Thanks in advance for your comments. Mike (Not so great at mechanics, but trying to learn) |

You probably have two issues to deal with. The coolant coming through the overflow might be from air in the coolant. Make sure you have bled the system thoroughly.
The oil pressure light probably comes on because the oil check valve is sticking in the closed position. I'm not sure if you have to pull the whole oil cooler housing to realign the check valve. Did you use the alignment drift when you replaced the cooler housing? Hopefully someone who has had problems like this will post a reply. When I changed the seals on my oil cooler, everything went back the way it was supposed to. E. C. Jones |
