'86 turbo wheel offsets

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't the wheel offsets change mid-model year 1986? I am going to look at an '86 turbo this week, and would like to be able to determine whether it has the early or late offset, without removing the wheels. I know modern Porsche wheels (primairly 17" boxster wheels) will fit onto the late offset without spacers, and there is a limited selection of wheels available for the early offset cars. I am hoping this car is a late offset, but i would like to know how to check.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike -

Stock 86 Turbos have the early offset - 23 mm - dealing with this issue myself - it is hard to spend less that $1,000 to upgrade to more modern looking wheels -

Mike -

Check out this site http://members.rennlist.org/951_racerx/ and go to the "what are stock wheel sizes" section - this site is a great resource for 1986 Turbos -

There are plenty of others who are better resources than I am, but I just learned a bit about '86 turbo wheels. My '86 NA has '86 turbo brakes and the 16" turbo wheels. 2 were bent and in my search I learned that the '86 turbo wheels are a different offset than all other years of turbos, and nobody in my search for wheels asked when in '86 my car was built.

I thought all 86's used the early offset, they just came with both Fuchs and Phone Dials.

Did the early and late 944s use a different bolt pattern as well?
