Post FYI , The fix for my cruise control .

86' 951 ,After resoldering all connections in the control box , on the driver's kick panel, and cleaning the wipers in the cruise control motor ,still dead .... Then I checked the clutch switch and it was loose and backed itself out . Life will be good on those long trips to the track .

Mac,
Glad to hear its fixed. Mine is currently inoperable. Could you provide pics or a more detailed walk through to troubleshoot? Any details would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Question

What is the clutch switch and where is it located? My Cruise Control quite working a few months ago, and I can't seem to locate the problem. Maybe it's the same problem you found on yours.

Hi Mac, thats cool that you found the problem so also there is a switch on the brake pedal if either one of these swiches are not working or shutting off when the pedal is relesed then you will have no cruise
Ie the clutch or the brake , to see the swiches you must look under the dash where the pedals are connected there will be on switch on pedal.....Stan

Cruise control 101 ; (86' 951)
1) Control box on drivers side kick panel , remove box and remove cover to gain access the circuit board . With a pencil style solder iron and solder (Radio Shack) resolder all solder joints . My motto on soldering is twice the heat half the solder .
2)Cruise control motor , remove from car and remove 4 bolts to gain access to wiper contacts ,note spring position ,clean both wiper arms contacts and check for proper tension on circuit board , also clean the contact strips ( contact cleaner )and add a small amount or dielectric grease onto the strips . Reassembly .
3)Check the both switches , located under the dash on the fixed frame of the brake and clutch pedals . Pull the plug off the end of the switches and check for proper operation using a digital volt meter on the lowest ohms scale (Radio Shack). With the clutch out the switch is closed and if your brake lights work ok , the brake switch is good .

I hope this helps.....

If you have a tail light bulb burnt out the cruise won't work. They are on the same circuit and a burnt bulb breaks the connection.
