Lightbulb tdc question

on my 944 before i did the belt job on it, when i lined the marking on the camshaft sprocket with the notch on the housing, on the back of the motor looking down ,will the the line on the flywheel be also aligned with the mark on the clutch housing as well? and if it is not does that mean that it is out of time? how can i fix the problem? even though the car seemed to run fine. please help||||

Question

Try turning the engine one more revolution. Since the cam turns at half the engine speed, one more turn of the crank, should line it up.

Hi Jerry well yes the marks should align, one on the cam housing and then on the back of the engine by the speed sensors, warning if these marks do not align then you are risking severe engine damage, as there will be a possibility that the valves will hit the pistons, the engine may seem to run in the mistimed state as the DME will try to adjust things however the belt needs to be removed to retime the engine, this will also include removing the balance belt.
First turn the engine over till TDC is reached on the flywheel and the cam alignment notch is close or near the pulley (cam) notchthen remove the belts and turn the cam in the correct direction it might be a tooth or so off.. also make shure you have the correct belt on your car, put the belt back on and tighten it then turn it over by hand and see if there is any binding going on ..... there should be none you might want to do this with the plugs removed to ease turning the engine..Good Luck...Stan
