Temp Guage & Switch

Got a '84 944 and my temp guage does not move. When I turn on the key, it bumps a little but never moves up when driving.

Also...my fan (driver side) was staying on contstantly. I found a corroded connector under the dash and replaced all the connections. Now the fan never comes on. Funny thing is, the A/C never worked before and now it will freeze you out. I'm guessing thermofan switch is toasted.

Any and all help appreciated.......

Interesting. There is an AC relay above the gas pedal. Is this what you fixed?

As to the temp gauge; there is a button top sender on the block. It's kind of under the intake runner to number one cylinder behind the DME temp sender. The DME sender has the same type of bail spring connector as the injectors.

The one you are looking for has a single wire to the top. Looks like the standard slip on connector but it's not. You may have to re crimp it to fit tight. If the wire is corroded you will have to cut some of it off and solder it back on to the connector. In some cases I've had to go further up the wire and replace a good section of it.

Thanks SoCal,.....I found the sending unit and will take a look at it tomorrow.

I didn't touch the A/C relay at all. All I did was replace the 6-pin connector in the harness left of the clutch. Trimmed some wires back and cleaned them up. Next thing I know, the A/C starts working, but the cooling fan stops working completely. I will replace the switch and see what happens next. The good news is the right side fan works when I kick on the A/C.

I replaced the thermofan switch and the left fan works just as it should now. Only problem now is that the right side fan does not come on with the A/C. The car does not seem to run hot. Don't know for sure until I replace the temp sender.

Any suggestions for the fan problem? Could it be a relay?
