Post 944 vents blowing heat when set at cold

I have a friend that just called up and is need of some help with his 1989 944 S2. His vents are blowing hot air and all ventilation instruments are set at cold. He is coming over right now and I'm gonna have a look at his car...I need a crash course in troubleshooting this right now...any takers and ideas????

first take a look at a small white plastic clip that controls a heater vent flap. This is the most common fail point for this type of problem.

How to view the clip... it's late, i'm tired but here it goes... My experience is with a 86na, your car may be different...

the general area to look at is on the drivers side, up beside your right foot, next to the trans tunnnel. Some cars have a cover in place so you will need to remove it. Once teh cover is out of teh way, you will see a metal rod with some threads cut onto the end. If you rotate the temperature control knob, turning from hot to cold and back, you should see the rod move. This is where the clip comes into play. The clip has threads cut into it and moves in relation to the rod. If the clip is broken, and it probably is, the rod will not move the flap open or closed and the result is that the heater WILL BE ON FULL BLAST. The fix is to replace the clip. Cheap part, get an extra.

My uncle has 4 944s and a 924 at his house he is parting out and rebuilding into club racers. He gets many parts from wrecking yards like parts heaven, autobauhn...etc.
