Trouble Bleeding Clutch
 

Today i replaced tha clutch master cylinder as the old one was leaking into the driver footwell. With a little bit of cursing the new master cylinder went in. The issue now is bleeding the system. No matter what i try I cannot get the pedal to return. I have a vacuum pump system to bleed the clutch which i used for some time today with no luck. It seems like i am getting very little fluid to come out of the slave cylinder during the process. I expected to have to refill the master cylinder a few times but all that comes out of the bleeder is a small puff of air and a tiny bit of fluid. Anyone who has done this before let me know how much fluid to expect and how long the entire process can take. I am at wits end. I even tried forcing fluid into the system up at the master with still no luck.

Any suggestions would be helpful. The car is due at the shop on Tuesday for other repairs so if I can't get the clutch to work i will need to have it towed.

This will get fluid in the lines and then you should be able to bleed the system in a normal fashion......Stan

You need to get someone to help you bleed it -- have them pump it 4-5 times at a time (with bleeder open)-- not one at a time. My experience has told me you might need to do this 5-10 times before you get the pedal to return by itself. Also when you get it bled it may seem like its not -i.e. the clutch engages real close to the floor.....Ive had this happen two or three times, and each time the air worked itself out after a week or two....strange I know, Good luck!
