Post Mustang VS 951 story

I found this story on the web from a Mustangs point ov view. Enjoy!!

Saleen S281 Vs. 951
by Mike K., age - 34, male
posted February 15, 2001

Saleen S281 Vs. 951? I was on San Antonio's 1604 at about 3am with my girl - taking my time when a SilverRose 951 Porsche pranced by at around 85mph. Well, I could not resist so I drafted him real close for about 5 miles. I have had my Saleen for about a year. I take great care of it, but dog it enough to know what to do with it. I have maxed it out on all roads and weather. We were laughing cause this guy seems like he was getting pissed. I guess my lights were to far up his ars! His Porsche seemed a little lower than other 951's I have seen, but he wasn’t making any extra noise. I realized he had some serious rubber on the ground and when he quickly scooted over to let me pass ~ he stayed flat ~ no roll at all. Hummm…
When I got next to him I heard him drop down 2 gears. This guy was hot! Shot me the bird, smiled and punched it. The car was fast! I dropped down and floored it as well. I got a little nervous cause I was not reeling him in like expected. I still can't believe he gained so much on me so quick - I was riding it hard and inching closer. I saw him shift at around 125. Anybody who has gone 130+ realizes real quickly that these smooth flat looking roads are anything but smooth and flat once the speed picks up. At about 140 it got real hairy. My Tang felt like it was dancing and I could feel the g's in my stomach for every little ripple in the road. It was in my first balls to the wall race over 140! Awesome! Tina was dead quite and holding on! My girl is a serious camper - never complained once. I had it floored and could not believe this guy was staying ahead, but I was comming up. I figured I would catch him on speed and guts alone! The trip between Blanco Rd and I-10 had never happen so quick before(about 10 miles). Well, the road opened up into 4 lanes passing the I-10 exit and I caught him - was next to him. I don’t know how fast I was going, but I was definitely red lined (about 142/145mph), but it was way too hairy to risk a look at the Speedo! God knows why - I decided to peeked a real quick glance over at him to send an eat **** eating grin when I realized he was sitting there waiting for me with a grin of his own and the same bird waving in the window. Tina claims the girl in the Porsche had taken off her shirt and was flashing us tit the whole way ~ I didn’t see ****! I had already decided to keep it floored for another 5 to 10 seconds (my car was running like a top) - so he could realize I had him for breakfast, but then this guy started overtaking me big time. I figure he gained 4 car lengths on me in the 10 seconds and he didn't seem to be having as much trouble with the road as I did. Well, suffice to say this 951 had much better top end than I did and my gut tells me he was much more stable on the road at those speeds, but no way he can take me from 0 to 60! Mr. 951, if you read this msg. bring it back on anytime! I am always cruising downtown Commercial on weekends, and am confident I can take you light to light any day! Morning ended up great anyway ~ my girl made sure none of my pride stayed down for long… m.k.

I normally agree with you Blackfoot. But honestly you need to lighten up a little bit. Some of us dont have tracks that we can just go to. Your one of the lucky ones. But quit shoving it in our faces already.

Aside from that I have to hand it to the mustang owner. He took his drubbing well. Admitadly he was going to fast for the suspension on his car. But at least he didnt start making excuses as to why he lost the race.

Hey Blackfoot thats the kinda racing I do! Go easy on us psychos!

Mustang boy is bull****ting. I saw a 951 rip the doors off a Saleen at Pomona back in July of '99. Got the whole thing on tape too. The car was done by Autothority and had a KKK K-29S Turbo in it...I think those are the RUF Turbos. I don't know how a car can handle that much power from that...all i know is that there is NO and may I repeat...NO WAY a Mustang either Saleen or GT can beat a 944 Turbo in any way shape or form. The 951 has an extremely powerful top end...not even that mustang can pull the 944 turbo in the drag unless he is tuned up. but in top speed the 951 dominates. These fools need to remember that.

At the hockey rink I work at there is a figure skating coach (nationally reknowned they say) and he has a brand new saleen. It is VERY fast. As far as the saleens go there are different versions of the Saleen Mustang. The s281 is the lower end model, not as fast (0-60 in about 5 seconds, 285hp) then there is the S351 (about a $60,000 car, 495HP)which is the middle one and it is pretty f8cking fast and then there is the SR which is basically a track car. 505 HP good suspension, it'll not only over take a 951 in 0-60 but greatly over take it as far as top speed. Saleens are no joke, they are good cars. Of course the SR sells for $150,000 so it should be a lot quicker and for that money a 996 TT is obviously a better choice! The s281 is around a $40,000 car. All in all it seems to me that the 951 in that story must have been a monster like Erick's or it must have just boiled down to the driver's.

S281 sounds about right for the cocksucker that raced that 951. I highly doubt he has enough money in his pocket to own one of those.

i agree.
i mean if your all alone and you like to go around a corner fast ok.
But i mean, why even bother racing a mustang, what the hell are you doing near a place where there is a mustang? go out to a country road you boring peice of

But then again, what is the point of owning a porsche, to drive on the road?
Why not just walk or take the bus, and then race on the track.
Well, thats a dream life and i hope to live it.
Walking is fun, it isn't dangerous.

It's strange but if my memory serves me right the new Mustang Cobra's are pushing about 325 hp from a 5.0. They cost less than a saleen 281. The Saleen's are made from Mustang GT's so the cobra would have improved suspension over a GT too (one would think so anyhow) so really what is the benefit of the 281 other than that it has a different body and is a "saleen"

Wow seems kinda harsh!!!! Adjust the sticker price of your mid 80's 951 or 944 for inflation and see where your numbers come up compared to the Saleen. I own a 944 and just sold a 95 Mustang GT. I love the Porsche but there are things about the mustang that I like better. Different strokes for different folks is all I suppose. Also have to believe that Saleen (any of them) is gonna have better resale than the 944 or 951's we all enjoy.

Hmmmm I find this post very suspicious. I'm not saying that Sam made it up, but perhaps the Mustang board's post was fabricated to begin with.

First of all, the Saleen driver seems to know A LOT about Porsches... he not only called the 944 Turbo by its internal designation (951) - which a lot of my Porsche obsessed friends don't even know - but also knew that the car's paint code and nickname was Silver Rose! Until about 5 months ago, I didn't even know that the Turbo SE was called this! The Mustang driver says that he noticed that the 951 was sitting lower than most that he had seen... he must have one hell of an eye for detail.

I don't know... I have no doubt in my mind that a modified 951SE could whoop a Saleen but I just don't buy this story.
