Question Hot motors?

I just was thinking about getting a 92-93 968 but I have been questioning there relieabilty, and I was wondering if you could give me some feed back, and an idea of what to look out for if buying one. Do they have the same heating prob that the 944's (most that i have seen) have, with the motor bay getting really hot and causing the plastic parts to break.

THANKS

The overheating problems you have seen have been due to neglect. The 968 and the 944 share many aspects of the same cooling system.

Neither of my 944's or 951's have had any cooling issues like the ones you have witnessed. But yes the plastic expansion tank will become warped and cracked if the system overheats. This also usually means that you will be due for a head gasket shortly.

So, to answer your question YES the 968 can have the same cooling issues as a regular 944, the motor is a 3L variant of the 2.5 and 2.7L egines in the 944. But proper care will can avoid this issue all together.

Find a 944/968 that has good service history, and keep that service up and you won't have any issues on either motor.
