the "motronic" box
when i open up that box under my steering wheel (that say's "Motronic"), i don't know what that whole system is called, i'll call it "the computer". which side do i open to find out what i need to "chip" my car? (i want to know if i'm gonna need FR Wilk's adapter on top of the chip...) do i pull off the side with "motronic" or the other side? because i looked under both covers, and i couldn't see anything but the underside of the boards on both sides...

Depending on your state you may or may not need the Wilks adaptor board. This lets you switch between stock and performance for smog tests. Other wise you will need to pull the CPU and put a socket in then put the CPU back into the socket.

well he said sometimes you needed an adapter to make just one chip work. not for the dual chip function.

*** Doing this might break your DME, so take all the antistatic precautions you can, if in doubt dont do it. ***
If you need to be sure then take either cover off, undo the four screws holding the ciruit board down and remove the rubber thingy in the middle of the circuit board, it might be glued down.. The board you just unscrewed should open like a book hinged on one side by a few wires, and you should be able to see all the surface mounted components on both boards, if there are no removable chips then you need to get the adaptor. PS the rubber thingy can be a ***** to get back on. Or alternatively the part number for my DME which did require an adaptor is "Porsche part number: 944.618.111.01 Bosch part number: 0 261 200 015" and i'm just guessing here, but the newer DME's might have a different part number?
