Post Freakin timing belts

Somebody help!
Are the later model 951's belts as much as a concern as the earler models? Mine is a 1988 Turbo S version. Should they still be changed every 40K and checked after 1500 miles?
Thanks!

I was just thinking..... is there anyone that offers a aftermarket solution so that we dont have to change it so often.... like a chain conversion.... or would that just be plain stupid? - I mean it wouldnt be that hard to do eh?

the reason why manufacturers went to belt in lieu of chain was that chain is much noisier. in addition it weears more than the belt I was told. I have never had a belt break on me that was replaced before manufactures recommendations.
