hello,
while cleaning the intake manifold on my 924, i took off the crankcase breather-looking thing that was on the manifold. this was situated a big back on the manifold, between the rear two manifold "tunnels". the stock one was PLUGGED. it looked to be caked with goo. i took it off, but didn't chuck it out just yet. i noticed that it was already capped with a rubber plug for some reason. i also noticed that later 924s DID NOT have a crankcase breather in this location. did they have one somewhere else? so should i put my plugged one back on the car? or should i just cap it with a generic pipe fitting that will forever seal it off if i don't need it at all. do i need it? i don't need to worry about emissions on this car. thanks! obin |

That's not a crankcase breather. It's the check valve for the AIR system. Only the eatle cars had it. The hole in the manifold feeds a long slot on the bottom of the intake manifold and cylinder head that feeds air to the exhuast ports via small holes drilled into the head. I have never seen one that wasn't clogged. I have never had the AIR pump ans system along with the EGR system on my car and it hasn't effected the emmission tests.
