oil cooler seals

i believe i will be needing to change my oil cooler seals as i have found white milky gunk in my coolant reservoir.

not sure how much it'll cost as I have searched the archives as seen estimates from $150 - $400 bucks.

before i goto a mechanic, anybody have any ideas how much this may run me?
also, do you suggest i tell the mechanic the problem, or see if it figures it out himself? they way i see it, if i test him, i can see if he is an honest or dishonest mechanic, but if i don't tell him, he may think i don't know didley-squat and try to take advantage of me

any ideas are always appreciated

I just finished doing the job myself. It's really quite easy. I'm not all that mechanically adept, so I'm sure you could do the job too. It took me about 3-4 hrs. I had the chocolate oil (not milkshake in the water), but none the less, it's all the same job. I paid $23 for the seal kit and followed the Haynes manual. I was quoted $350 by a local well revered repair shop, but opted to do it myself. There are several very good previous threads here on Pelican that you may want to research, if you choose to do the work yourself. Good luck, either way you go about getting it fixed.
