Question Low Oil Pressure?

Hey guys what's up?

Today while driving to work I was cruising along at my normal speed 75 - 80 mph.
I noticed the oil pressure drop down to less than 3 bars checked the rearview mirror and saw white smoke coming out of the exhaust, the smoke only lasted for about 10 seconds.
I slowed down everything seemed fine, I sped back up to cruising speed and noticed that the pressure was between 3 and 4 bars @ about 3k on the tach.
Checked oil level when I got to work and that was fine checked for any leaks couldn't find any.
On the way home about 45 minute drive the oil pressure stayed at the same level (no smoking). The car seemed to have a little hesitation at higher rpm's.

Not sure what is going on.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

white smoke indicates water in the combustion, but are you really sure it was white, and not light blue? either way, maybe get a compression check (not sure what #'s are good for your car) or better yet, a leakdown test.

check your plugs to see if any are fouled. keep checking to make sure your oil level doesn't drop, and get the car looked at quickly.

...and closely monitor your coolant level.

Cool

So you was holding the pedal down at the speed of 75-85 mph then notices the smoke coming out? Or at 75-80 mph you let the pedal go and seen the smoke come out? When the engine is cold and you start the engine up is the oil pressure at 4-5 bars? It should be. Oil pressure at 75-85 mph should be at least 4 bars. The only time I came across smoke like that was when I drove a automatic Toyota Tercel and decelerate the gas pedal and seen light blue smoke coming out. It happens only on deceleration. I think its one of two things. 1) it could be a bad oil presure sender unit. 2) A bad oil pump. The smoke part I think is your valve seals or piston rings slightly oil leaking in the chamber on high rpms. I think its nothing to do with your coolant mixing. It's oil passing in your engine chamber.

Wink

Thanks for the info guys,
I was holding the pedal down when the smoke came out.
Not exactly sure if it was blue smoke (kinda hard to distingush at that speed)
I will check coolant level today, and get the car looked at tomorrow.

Keep you updated

Rob
