Unhappy taking on water

Got a new problem...

the left (driver's side) well under the hatch is 3/4 full of water. We've just had major rainfall (6 inches) in several hours. I emptied the well out and did not find any drain holes or plugs.

Three questions:
is there a drain plug that I'm just not seeing...

any thoughts on making a drain hole...

any ideas where the water's coming from. The carpet over the bin is dry and I really don't think the hatch is leaking...

there are drain holes with rubber plugs on each side, obviously at the lowest points. if there is crud obscuring your view, get underneath the car and remove them there.

The rear hatch has two drains just under the spoiler - there are two hoses (one each side) that goes past the brake lights - check to see that the hoses haven't fallen off their nipples - the hoses continue on down and go through a hole in the side. If your hose is loose or missing, it can let water into the hatch area. My '84 944 has a wierd problem of actually filling the brake lenses with water caused by this same hose. Cleaning the hoses helps.

There is a drain hole and this is supposed to have a rubber one way valve like plug. The large diameter plastic hose going through the storage well is the drain from the sun roof.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

also check the outlet for the hose that drains the sunroof. i used to install sunroofs and if the hose wasnt connected propperly to the drain plug this would happen.

and just an interesting thing i learned while doing it was that ALL sun and moonroofs leak (except top sliders) but they channel the water out of the car with hoses connected at all 4 corners.

Asking if you should replace that timing belt is like asking if you should re-use a condom that may have in hole in it with a hooker.

I followed the hose from the gromet back to behind the carpet. The hose is connected to another hose that comes from the roof pillar. The hoses had come disconnected, so I re-connected them.

We're waiting for Isabelle to hit this afternoon so I hope this fixes it.

Thanks for everyone's responses...
