Hi there
I just switched over from the 914 crowd to a 944 (1986). My first question; Is it normal for the steering to be hard and stiff like an old truck? My second question is how do I begin to find out what I need to do to get the A/C to work? I am switching over and selling my 914 because the thing is not only expensive but completely UNRELIABLE!! Is there any bolt on HP increaser? thanks for your help in advance! Pedro |

congrats on your 944 purchase. to answer a few of your questions:
1) steering--well, coming from a mid-engine car where there was little weight over the front, do you think that you're just talking about getting used to a car where at least half of it's weight is over the front wheels? the strict answer is no, the steering should not be stiff or feel like a truck! 2) a/c--check if all the equip. is there. then check id compressor belt is on, and for freon. 3)hp increase--well, since you're asking, you must not own a turbo. the simple and easy answer is you'll pretty much have to live with the hp you got. you can spend considerable money into the usual mods, and that will net you a few hp here and there. but not a big change. of course, you can always add nos and get maybe 60-70 hp. i think a few members here have gone on the bottle. and i've heard of a supercharger kit for 944, but am sure nobody here has done it.
