How NOT to fix a Porsche!

What you now see is what I found this afternoon when I embarked on replacing the clutch master and slave cylinder.

Yes these “after market” parts where actually put in place as a repair of the firewall. I am still wondering how it made it this long! And yes, those two pieces are actually plywood.

The firewall is now fixed with real metal, and should last longer then the car. It still needs some finishing touches, but I ran out of time and had to get her back on the road.

I must say that with the new cylinders in place and working, it’s like driving a new car!

Enjoy, and I hope you never find anything like this in your car.

Just so you don't get too excited but your rear seat back is made of wood.

Any holes below the battery?

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Don't forget the piece of plywood protecting the DME as well.

Alex,

The 83 through early 85's have the DME mounted under the steering column.

Never could understand why Porsche moved it to the passenger foot well and put a plywood cover over it in 85.5 models. Guess they needed room for the alarm and turbo thingy.

Sadly not! This unique repair was held in place with the two drywall screws in the pic! But worry not, one was put in from the motor side and the other from the passanger side.
