trip meter is broken

my trip meter is understating the distance it actually travels. so i have no clue what to do. it's gonna screw up when i change the oil and stuff. any input is appreciated.

I'm willing to bet that you're missing teeth on your odometer gear. Your odometer will continue to run for a little while but eventually stop altogether. If it's that important to you that you know the mileage travelled, you should buy a gear online and replace it. It's not difficult.

ok so i was wrong, both the odometer and the trip meter aren't moving at all. my dad used it and he screwed it up. i'm betting he tried to reset the trip meter while he was moving. so now what can i do to fix it?

The speedo still works... right? If it does, like the previous posts say, buy the odometer gear and replace it. It's not too hard.

i was told by a friend's friend that there is a company near me that is authorized to disasemble the vdo cluster. it is called palo alto speedometer
