Third brake light

Hi you all!!

Because of safety reasons, specially after a guy kiked me from behind due to mishap,i want to install a third brake light on my 951.

I ask you to,please post pics if you have one installed, just to see your ideas and designs.I think a large and thin one will do the best job,but i wanna see yours if you have it.

I you have any ideas, please tell me.

Thank you!

There is a site.I cannot remember who set it up but it describes the installation of a stock 944 light. I did it by using a clear double sided 3M tape; bought the light from Oklahoma Foreign, and ran wires under the headliner down the side to the brake light on the drivers side. Works fine.

The rear hatch on the 86 I parted out had the stock center brake light.

The wire passed through a tube to the drivers side pillar then through a grommet into the pillar. Connected to the brake light wire in the wire loom behind the side panel.

I put it on my 83 and drilled a hole in the pillar and wired it in.

I didīnt know there where stock center brake lights on the 944...is the design ok? i am considering aftermarket lights (cheaper),if you can post some pics of yours SoCal,and anyone else...itīs just to see them how they look.

your 86' 951 was probably an earler import. From what i understand it became law that year and they slapped the part on later 951's. (like mine, also an 86)

Manute 09-24-2003 10:20 PM

yes, mineīs is an earlier one, well, really itīs a late 85,it was one of the first 951 produced,itīs a pure german with license plate in october ī85.
Iīve saw a few 951 and S2,and never saw a third brake light...may be here was not law imperative.

Plz if you can post a pic,i would be very grateful.

that thing behind it is my rear view mirror.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1064507752.jpg

my 944 was bog standard when i got it. the number plates where cracked so i replaced them {now with porsche crests}and used new thru bolts with bright red LEDs {2} wired to brakes. Also put a LED strip brake at top of hatch. You can just see them backing off. You cant have enough brake lights!!!

I really like the third light "wing" that is on one of the newer 911/boxter types. I wish someone made one for the 944. I am probably going to try and fabricate one myself

TCMdocs944 09-25-2003 11:23 AM

tomieche - Got pics?

Manute 09-25-2003 11:22 PM

nice light perfecto,is the stock one?
I like more the thin and large ones with leds, but yours fits better....

plz post pics tomeiche, seems cool your addon.

Now in Spain, ricers they like putting fluorescent lights, usually pipes, mauve coloured. They put it at the rear, below the car,(yes, below, just to see the road illuminated below the car),at the mirrors....It seems that the engine is there only to move a generator just to feed all the lights...

Also with the awful colors they paint, and the big Sport,16 valves,etc...sticks they put, they make the most awful cars ever.....poor guys!

perfecto951 09-26-2003 05:33 AM

it's a stock light.

i'll have to take a picture of my dancing neon lights that are under my car as well as my hydraulic suspension system....and my 10,000,000 watt speaker system!

How about this one in the Pelican Porsche 924/944/968 Technical Articles, Adding a 3rd Brake Light

I bought a 3rd light for my 86' years back. The 3m tape they supply is white. Which looks awful if your window is not tinted. You have to find the black tape.

Manute 09-28-2003 02:40 PM

thanks for the link Mike....i need to surf better this great web.
But it seems more complicated than i tought...may be because itīs stock light....

My idea was:Buy an aftermarket thin and long light, connect it with a normal wire, put it in the car with screws, tape,or something that can fix it,and thatīs it!!

And itīs cheaper,a good non porsche light is about 15-20$ here.

3m supplies white tape??Awful for most cars I suppose
