Hi ronnie, hey how do you know it is the ecu are you talking about the DME? (this is the brain for the motor on a Porsche)
Anyway before you do any replacements, there are a few things to check first see if your fuses are all good, this might be a good time to replace all your fuses I replace them after 10 years as a matter of course, also replace the DME relay if the old one is still good then you will now have a spare, this is a good thing to carry in your car, also look at the coil and see if your getting power to it , also check the 2 big brown wires that connect to the rear of the engine in the back of the head these are for the DME ,and of couse check the timing of the engine IE is the timing belt still in good working order? if any one of these are not connected then you will fry the DME and or the DME will not operate also make shure that the 2 speed sensors are connected, this is a good time to get some Dielectric grease and put it on all the engine connectors of the engine harness and lastly check the DME unit this is located in the passenger foot well under a board make shure that Battery acid has not dripped on to the unit connector and possibly corroded the wire harness, note if you have a leak from the battery box now is the time to fix it, the battery is positioned above the DME that is in the car and after time the battery will make the battery box corrode and a hole will develope and thus water and acid will drip onto the unit, I put a used coolant container over the battery just cut out one side of it then slip it over make 2 more cuts for the wires this will keep the battery dry after you wash the car or it rains............Also there is a place that will rebuild your DME or try to get one from a junk yard, look into the Excellence magazine for more info, I think Vertex also does rebuilds..........Stan
