Post cruise, power windows, and sunroof problemsm etc..

I have these problems with my 91 944 s2. First, the sunroof does not go up any longer. I am wondering if the switch is shot. It worked great up until today. Second, the cruise does not engage at times. I can accelerate the car with the cruise but sometimes it will not set until I push it 20 or more times. After it engages once it works great for the rest of the day. Next, I can not get the passenger window to go down from the driver side switch. However, the switch does move it up. Any help from the experts out there would be greatly appreciated.

The problem with the window is likely a bad switch. If the window goes up and down just fine from the passenger side switch, then it's definitely a bad switch on the drivers side.

Check you sunroof relay first, in other words make sure you have power to the motor when the switch is deperssed. The motor can be accessed by removing the drivers side carpet panel in the trunk. If the motor is moving but not moving the roof replace the cable drive. If your getting power and nothing is happening it's probably a burned out motor or a broken limit switch. These switches measure the amount of movement in the roof, weather it's up or down. And of course also check the switch using a VOM that measures resistance. Most sunroof problems are pretty easy to repair.

On to the cruise control. You may have a bad colum switch if thats the case it's not very easy to replace. You have to pull the steering wheel, and I think your model has a drivers side airbag which only makes it more difficult. The arm/switch assy is one unit. Again check the relay and the fuse to it.

On another note you didin't happen to wash your engine recently? I did once and lost two relay at the same time.

I had somewhat of a similar problem with my 87 944S. It turned out to be a ground connection in the rear of the vehicle near the driver side taillight on the inside of the car.
