Starting Problem

OK I hate to advertise my ignorance, but electrics plumb evade me. Car starts and runs fine, but after say 20 mins or so, if I shut her down she won't start again till everything cools way down. I don't know if it's just a dirty/corroded connection or a bad solenoid. Pop starting it has become dangerous (slipped yesterday and landed on my tail bone as the car kept rolling away), and I don't want to leave it running every time I need to make a stop. Help is much appreciated.

Your ground cable is probably in need of replacement - goes from the negative of the battery to the block, right behind cylinder 4

Also include the positive terminal. Replaced one on Gordon's car and it cranks everytime now.

Search for previous thread.

With a hot starting problem that goes away when the car cools down I would put a bad check valve on the fuel pump high up on the list. Fuel in the injector rail is heated up via heat soak and vaporizes which forces fuel back into the gas tank because the check valve is leaking and results in vapor lock.

I'm not sure if you can buy just the check valve and you may need a whole new fuel pump.

Now thats funny!!;)

Try just cleaning your battery terminals really well, and the connection at the solenoid. If it continues then do a SoCal say’s!

Personally, I’d pull solenoid and have it tested also. But then, I had a “69” Firebird that didn’t like a single one I put in! So now, anytime a car won’t start when hot, I blame the solenoid!
:D

Guys,
Thanks a bunch. Pulled the ground wire from the Battery, cleaned and sprayed 'Wire Dry" on both ends, then (this car has two grounds one from the batt to the firewall, then from the other side of the firewall to the engine) cleaned the other firewall connection and sprayed it (required unplugging both flywheel sensors). I couldn't get to the engine connection without disconnecting a heater hose, Sooo ... under the car and did the same routine with all the starter connections (not alot of play in the wires, but got the crud off). So far no prob, car starts every time. Hooyah!
