I've noticed while washing my 944 that all the runoff water that comes off of the winshield pools in the front of the engine bay, where there is some drainage. Some water does, however, occasionally end up on the battery and other key components! Is there a reason for this? Were the Porsche engineers just not thinking when they designed this? Has anyone else wondered about this weird design flaw?

get or make a cover for the battery... If you are having water collection problems, make sure your drain holes are clean. To clean them out, use a piece of small but stiff wire to snake them.

Hi All, I have a very simple but very effective solution to the battery gets wet problem I have used it on all 3 of my 944`s Get a coolant bottle and cut out one side and remove about 2inches off the top then place this over your battery cut slots for the wires but dont remove the plastic let the sides rest on top of the wires now when it rains or you wash the car only the sides of the battery will get wet, also put some grease on the battery posts, this will prevent corrosion of the terminals.........The big deal about the battery is that it makes acid vapor, and this vapor will get deposits on the battery that will wash off when it rains or the car is washed this then falls into the battery box resulting in holes from acid corrosion, so if the top of the battery is covered then there will be no acid runoff into your battery box.....now would also be the time to inspect your battery box for corrosion and fix it with some fiberglass bondo after repairs are made I suggest using some rubberized undercoating , let this dry thoroughly B4 replacing the batttery |

Actually Shaun, water is an insulator. Water only conducts when ions are dissolved in it. Also, 12volts isn't exactly much of a potential, so very little current will actually flow through the water(unless you start pouring a bunch of salt into the water).
