oil leak! Help!

Hello fellow Porsche fanatics! I appreciate those of you that responded about my CV joints. I have an oil leak since I got the car...I know bad karma! It is leaking from the firewall side of the motor possibly the cam cover?? Leaves about a 3" ring of oil on the ground every day or so. I want to do it myself without having to take it to the mechanic. It is just hard to tell where it is leaking exactly?? Does the cam cover sound like a possibility or any suggestions.
Thanks a lot guys!

Hi Brock, clean off all the oil that you can see with some brake cleaner and a rag while the engine is cold it also might be a good Idea to jack her up so you can get underneath use jack stands!, might be a cam cover seal its made of cork on the back of the cam housing, also look at the seal between the block and head, could be there look under the car look at the rear main seal and the oil pan gasket see if the drain plug is loose and also look at the right balance shaft end seal this is a round piece of aluminum and as the seal gets older then this piece will start to move around in the housing, a lil movment is OK as long as it is not leaking, however it is telling you that time is running out on the seals integrity........Stan

How many miles do you have? These 944's usually start to leak first from the rear balance shaft o-ring.

Hi Cracker, do you have an oil leak from your balance shaft housing as well if so the balance shaft housings must be removed to replace the seals it is a half dollar sized orange O ring that fits around the metal dollar sized piece that is movable in the end of the balance shaft housing it will require a lot of disassembly to fix it...Belts off, motor mount off the engine and also you need some orange locktite to reseal the housing that is for the lower or passenger side housing for the driver side you will need to remove the tubo and most of the exhaust system...lots of work......Stan
