check this one off my list...

Well, I finally got a speeding ticket in my Porsche. Nothing spectacular, 59 in a 45. I'm sure somebody can relate. "But officer, there wasn't anybody on a 4-lane divided highway, who wouldn't?"

Well I can check this off my list of things to do before I die. Next up...twins!!

the thinner air of colorado makes the car slip thru the atmosphere more easily, add wax, and its an act of god. plead innocent if conditions of visibility were good, little traffic.

If it was Littleton, make sure you contact the court and ask about a plea. I was written up for exactly the same charge, and they dropped it to improper equipment with 0 points.

The infraction was on Santa Fe Blvd. just south of Evans. That is in Denver. They give you an automatic plea reduction if you pay in 20 days. It drops the points in half and takes a little off the fine, but not much. There was an Englewood cop down on Dartmouth doing the same thing so the fishing must be good there.

Usually they are just popping people for HOV infractions on that stretch of road.

It was a Sunday, so no HOV rules. Heck, I didn't have time to move over to that lane. I'd just got on that road. During the week you can't go over 20mph due to traffic.

Sorry to hear of your run-in with good old johnny-law!

The good thing is that your insurance rate will not increase. As a new agent I was pretty suprised to hear that, but relieved at the same time!!

Santa Fe is that one road with a 45 mph limit that screams 80 on a Sunday morning. One of the best speed traps in the region, in my opinion.

I got a ticket up here in Fort Collins a few weeks ago. The cop came to my window and recited the entire list of what I had done wrong since he'd been following me....failure to signal, failure to maintain my lane after turning, cutting off a driver, failure to signal lane change (about 6 times), and doing 55 in a 40 when he finally pulled me over. I listened patiently, gave him my documetation, and said "Hey, I'm not going to argue with you". He came back with a ticket for failure to signal lane change. 1 point and a $30 ticket paid in advance.

I got lucky on this one, but just remember that arguing with a cop gets you nowhere. It's way more difficult to convince a judge that the cop was wrong than it is to just take some responsibility. And also, speeding doesn't even add points or show up on your record in Colorado unless you're doing 25 over the speed limit.

The moral of this story? USE YOUR TURN SIGNALS!!! (he he he)

All I got was "Do you know how fast you were going?" What's the right answer to that?

Not as fast as I would have been in another mile.

Fast enough to get your attention.

Faster than I should.

I said "50 to 55". I guess that wasn't the right answer since I got the ticket. I think I may have had a better chance for a warning in my Subaru, or Sienna. I'm going 14 mph over in a red Porsche. I'm not getting a warning, and I accept that.

Tom

A ticket for anything 3mph over the speed limit shows up on your record. And it stays on your record for 5 years!! Trust me, I sell insurance here in CO!! In fact, I almost guarantee your ticket will be onyour record and more than 1 point!

If what you claim were the case, everyone would be getting awesome insurance rates and I think we all know that is not the case. Don't take a ticket lightly....it can keep you from some great auto rates.

It's an epidemic here in Colorado, seems to me that half of the cars on the road have inoperative signals.

Remember we were just rated the 3rd worst city for traffic in all of North America. It's basically a paganistic fight for your life everytime you hit the road here. I can rarely get my car over 30 MPH anywhere in the Denver metro area.

Quickly..

Purchase a speedo cable. Present the receipt to the Judge. Be nice and plead ignorance (I was doing 2800 RPM..) Walk away..

Return the speedo cable, or better yet!- just replace it - It's probably gonna go soon anyway!
