fan problem
i have an interesting problem with my cooling fans:
one fan works, the left one, the other works VERY rarely... if i remove the fuse for the fan, sometimes the right fan will come on for a short time. this happens with the engine hot, cold, or with AC on. i've replaced ALL the fuses and the fan relay. any ideas? |
The right fan is the high temp fan it only comes on when it is at hight temps or when the A.C. is on Your car is fine don't worry it's made that way
|
The fans should work like this:
Ignition ON, A/C ON, (engine running or not), BOTH fans should run. Engine idleing, engine HOT, BOTH fans should cycle On and OFF. Ignition OFF, engine HOT, Driver side fan should run for a short time at a low speed. Fans are not required at speeds above about 35 MPH unless the A/C is on. |
Thanks porsche944 for explaining it better than I did

You're welcome. I've been through this fan issue several times. ;-)

apparently, i am being misunderstood... the right fan almost NEVER comes on, unless i play with the fuse (no idea what this is doing). this is to say that if i walk out to my car, turn the AC on, the right side fan is not going to come. if i let it warm up till the needle is way past the middle and the left side fan is running, the right side fan will not be running. then, if i shut it down and pull the fuse, put it back in, turn the car back on, the right side fan MIGHT work for a few minutes and then stop, never to start again until i play with the fuse.

Wow, that's weird! Let me ponder this a while.....

any ideas yet? i am thinking it might be the fan itself, and the fuse wiggling is a red herring...
