Port and Polish closeups / pregress report
okay, last night i got a new set of workspace lights and i decided to use them to show everyone the inside of the ports.
what you are seeing here are two sets of pics: http://209.150.235.158:8585/cylinder_head/port_polish_3/ the closeups of the intake ports were taken right after i took the valves out. don't worry about the white spots, that's soap. when i took the head out of the car, i hosed it down and used some Purple Power degreaser to get the oil off. as you know, i left the intake valves in the head because i was concentrating on the exhaust ports. the intake ports further show how much that the techron works. i DID NOT touch them with a rag, or any other cleaning utensil. all i did is let the water drain out, but as you can see, some soap was left behind. no worry, it comes off with a rag in 2 seconds. now for the exhaust side: the bumps you can see are the product of 2 things: bits of metal "dust" that has been left behind from the polishing, and surface irregularities. if you were to touch the ports with your finger, they are just as smooth as glass. i took these shots using the macro function on my camera. remember in real life these things are only an inch (25.4mm) wide. if you are looking at them on a 17" monitor, then they are 5 or 6 times larger than in real life. i, being a perfectionist, have decided to get some finer jewelers-grade tools to help with the final smoothing of the ports. right now, these are pretty darn smooth. the ports are flowing well, and the differences with further smoothing are not that great. however, as stated before, i'm a perfectionist so i have to get these things mirror-reflective before i'm happy. also, the angle that the lights were at gives a much greater level of contrast than if you were to look at these ports head-on. there's a lot of tiny irregularities that i can't see until i put the light on the head. so, what does everyone think? when i am DONE with the smoothing i will bring the head to get cleaned and dipped. then it's reassembly time. enjoy! obin ------------------ Wej doen niet mee an de moduh |
obin, I could not get to that url. Do you have it posted on your website?

hmm,
could you get to any of the other ones i did: http://209.150.235.158:8585/ if not then it is a problem with your Internet Service Provider. the easiest way to fix this is to give them the URL and say that you can not connect to this web site, but everyone else you know can do it. they will fix it quickly. notorious for having problems: people on Cable Modems, and some smaller ISPs. thanks! obin |

i know that this causes problems with a few people, but the server that i have my pics on is actually a backup computer in my office/computer lab. i can't use port 80 because that is the company's standard web site. my "8585" server [NETBIOS name "Komet"... it's named after one of my Parakeets] is the one that i have unlimited space on. the server is also a "project box" so that i can test various web things on. so, to make a long story short, if you can't get to port 8585, then just have your internet provider open that port up on the firewall. give them the exact link and say that it won't work at home. thanks! obin [This message has been edited by Obin Robinson (edited 06-28-2001).] |
You want me to tell the company Gods to open up a port on the firewall, I'll do that right after hell melts after the freezes over. I think maybe I'll just wait till I get home.

Obin, sorry I'm still running a 56k modem at home and at work were on a t1 line but it's government stuff so they can't open ports that easy. Don't worry I can wait till I get home for the pic's. Also I can't seem to send mail to your hotmail account. Mail something to me.
