Buying a 89 S2

Well Im wondering how much an 89 S2 with 177k miles on it is worth. Had an engine rebuild at 65k and a new torque tube. Clutch is 10k miles old, belts and waterpump are 20k old. 18' turbo twists, sparco racing seats and bar with 5 point harness. good interior, small cracks on dash, paint is good, small chips in front, all electrical is good and no leaks of any kind. Ac blows cold ..it was just recharged. Uhm it musta had 40k worth of warrenty work done to it in the 90s. This guy is the 3rd owner and owns other 944s...He has all the papers for the car.

Sounds like a awesom ride. What are you thinking of offering for it? $6500~7k area?

Also I would still do the belts if I purchased it, but I am pretty paranoid about belts.

That sounds like a great price, with the listed track accesories and the 18' wheels.

I knoe the fron has adjustable coil-overs, but you could convert the rear as well for some added performance.

TheCooler: Not much upgrades in the engine dept. for the 944S2. You can go intake/exhaust, but they won't yield alot more power.

Suspension can be upgraded to a WTF or WTH setup. (What the F* or What the H* )

The S2 is a great car for the track, especially tracks like Lime Rock, where there's not enough room for the turbos to stretch their legs!

Any word on when the cam chain guide/tensioner was replaced? IF that fails, the results are drastic! (Read: Bent valves!)

HTH,

engine rebuild and torque tube at 65K seem a bit odd. sounds like a deal and a half though.

Click me for pictures

^^ pictures are there.

Well the owner told me that the original owner had a problem with the oil cooler seals and that he had let it run with oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil too long and the engine broke down and it was still under warrenty. So, he had gotten it fixed. This was at 65k miles i believe then like 10k more it hadda have a clutch job but after the clutch was changed the car broke down again. This was because the clutch was done wrong by the mechanic and had torn up of the torque tube in some way. So that was replaced with a new one. All these repairs happened in like 95/96 i think.

I was in aw of the cost of the repairs. 10k on one 7k on another. Beit all under warrenty but still ...damnnnn yo. The car is perfect now though and im glad it is.

The cam guide/tensioner was replaced 20k ago i think. Every how many miles is safe to change it?

The PO had the car all ready for limerock. Its approved to go racing there. SO...I WANNA GO!

I really cant wait until i pick it up next week!!

Looks pretty good, I am also looking for a S2 for track. Your lucky he already has some of the big expenses out of the way for you.

Have fun at Limerock you're lucky you live within driving distance!

Cooler:
Have you done any track days? If not, I suggest you try a DE (Driver's Ed) before doing a club race. (Something about the cart before the horse... )
