Eeek!! I'm being drawn to the DarkSide!

So I'm out looking for meaningful employment. I come across this shop a few blocks away that has some 911 race cars outside in various stages of disassembly. I start taking to this crusty looking mechanic that is cleaning off an old AC compressor. Talking about 911's and Corvairs and 350 Chevy powered 1970's Mercedes wagons and such.

I ask if he knows if the owner needs any help. He asks me what I know. Ten minutes later as I'm recounting all of the fun I've had with all of my sins, he cleans his hands and says let me take down your name and number. Ah...it's the shop's owner.

Well I just might have a job! Building engines and welding up roll cages and other sinful fun things -- on 911's. I guess it's OK as I did work on VW's and Corvairs.

No benefits other than the owner will buy you lunch.

Now when it rains it pours. A couple of hours later I'm sitting here at home and I get a call from the fellow I've been borrowing the 924 FWSM from. He asks if I would be interested in helping him part time as a kind of service writer; customer interface. He is getting more business and finds he needs to do more shop time and less front desk time. Cool! He does all kinds of German and Italian cars.

Good luck Hugh!!!! And if you have any spare time maybe Wayne here at pelican could keep you entertained!! I see he is looking for a Porsche parts sales/consulting type of guy. Don't get too busy though, I still need to do a clutch in the 951 and it looks like A LOT of fun!!!!

Almost a year and a half between "real" jobs!

Picked up what I can as a designer/drafter contractor. Not many automation engineering jobs here in SoCal.

Guess it's back to my roots.

GL, Bro! (or "Brah", as they say in Costa Mesa). Real money beats EDD's stipend by far. I'm going to be totally caught up (knock on wood) with my next check after being gradually sucked down over the last year. It's a great feeling. I just "unpacked" those photos of my Nephew and I degreasing ourselves in your sink. Good times.

Congrats SoCal....
Never can tell what these two opportunities may evolve into.

If you have to get your hands dirty there are worse things than 911's.

SoCal,

Sounds like a fun job. An engineering mind pays off with racing stuff.
