How to remove center instrument cluster on early 944?

Hello,

Another beginner question here ... as I posted last week, I need to hunt down a short in my instrument lighting circuit.

Part of the job I plan to do involves removing/replacing the bulbs (also inspect the wiring) in the center instrument cluster.

I've removed the two phillips head screws at the top of the face plate. However, from here (I know this sounds elementary), I'm a bit stuck.

I don't want to start prying things that were not meant to pop loose. Also want to avoid scratching the heck out of my face plates.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Many thanks!

Regards,

DL

all the knobs on the heater control panel pull straight out, then the panel itself is only held in on the top by some tabs. just pull it out by the bottom. the actual main panel is kind of a beeyatch. i dont know of any good way to get it off. you just have to pull it out by the top.
whats the problem with the console?

Well, before my short circuit problem, the heater control area was always dark, thus I'm thinking there must be a burned out bulb in there somewhere.

There IS a light behind there right?

The heater control panel is supposed top be held in at the bottom with two screws. You have to use a stubby screw driver to reach them. They are just above the radio. Pull the sliders and fan knob off. There are two more screws for the top panel behind the heater control panel.

Don't mix up the light bulb holders as there is a certain one for the light on the heater control panel.
