Post Door mirror fell off

I was driving my 85.5 when the glass on my drivers side mirror fell off and shattered. All that is left is some grayish/silvery plastic paper like material on the housing. Does the glass glue to this material? Can the glass be bought seperately?

I just replaced the glass on my drivers side mirror. (Thanks for the advice guys !).
I ordered a new mirror glass from a Porsche breaker here in the UK for £18 - half the cost of a new one. Works great - heater elements and everything.
So try to find a second hand one. Rotate the knurled circular ring to drop of the old one and reverse to replace.

Same exact thing happened to me yesterday. Mine fell off while parked. I did not notice until I already backed out of space. I then get out of car to see that my front tire went right over it while backing up.

Please post back on this message if you find anything out.

Thanks
mike

Mine fell off when i closed the hood right after i was cleaning up my engine compartment.....one thunk and a shatter.....i thought i left my beer underneath there. I got a new one for 10 dollars at the wrecking yard.

Unfortunately I can't simply go to the salvage yard here in central MI and pick one up. If I said I was looking for a Porsche they would ask, "Does Chevy make that?"
I did however find the whole mirror assembly for $35 + shipping. Is this a good price?

I experienced same thing two months ago. When you have one side fall off, the other side will fail soon.
My local glass shop ordered a couple of them from an auto mirror company. More accurate and thinner than local cut. Cost me $25 each. Curved and flat mirror are same price. The glass shop glued them on with kind of black color glue. So far so good. Save $$$ then OEM one.
