Is this valence standard on my car?

So I have a valence on the rear of my car.....here are the pics

I'm talking about the assembly below my rear bumper. So now my question is, I've seen this assembly on many (maybe all?) of the turbos.....but my car is an NA. Is this an aftermarket option or something, or is it standard on all of the 89 944 NA series? Any other 89 owners who can answer this one for me?

let me be clearer. it was standard on those cars - not an option and not available for the others

So you figure the PO took it off another car and strapped it onto this one? Huh! I like it, now when I see other 944's without it, they look sort of naked.

I agree. many owners bought kits that would allow you to install the valance on standard 44s. actually an easy process

Does the rear valence serve a purpose, or is it a cosmetic add on?

I do like the looks of them though...

it serves as a diffuser. it adds downforce at speed

also, you might consider getting the turbo front end. then you'd look really cool

Good to know. I was considering buying one, but couldn't justify the money if it didn't add anything to performance.

Thanx

I seem to recall a book mentioning that the later S' were fitted w/the rear turbo spoiler as standard... Look @the option code sticker!

I'm not sure about the S, but on the S2 it was standard. I can try to look it up if it's important to you.

nope, it's not important. the only reason why I asked is that you said the "later S" models. I guess you meant S2 by that. at first I thought you were saying that the later production run of standard S models might have had them and I never did see them on any standard S models before (unless it was installed by the owner, of course)
