Here's another question...951 v 944

Here's another question...regarding 951 v 944 reliability....Reliability for a daily driver...I like the 951's non-interference engine design...but am leery of anything labeled turbo...so, for a daily driver, given equal mileage(100k) and relatively equal maintenance...which will be the more reliable...951 or 944?

Nopes, the 951 IS the interference engine! Reliability is a matter of personal maintenance and driving. A properly serviced, driven 951 can easily outlast an abused 944 - and vice versa.

Plandy is right...924 engine is the non interference one.Might be the option for high mileage and relatively cheap maintenance.

I cant compare with a n/a 944 ,I only know the turbo is a very delicate part and another thing to take care...Needs more attention, better treating engine and more money...But when the guage shows more than one bar things get hot!

if belts break, there is no valve damage.

All things equal, a regular 944 will be more reliable period. The turbo version is more complex, and there's a whole lot more heat under the hood. These things added to virtually any design will hurt reliability.

That said, if taken care of, both have great potential to be quite reliable.
