BoXTeR ENGINE?

How would I go about putting another engine in my 944 N/A? I want more Power =D. That's simpy it. How would a Boxter Engine fit? What about a S2 Engine?

In a recent issue of Excellence, there's an article on how someone put an S2 engine in a Black 944S. I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but it will get you an idea of how it's been done in the past.

IMHO, engine swaps are one of the more expensive ways of getting more power. Have you done the other stuff (intake, exhaust, chip, polish/porting...etc.) yet?

the truth is, the 944 was designed to have pep and be a world-class handler, but not be particularly powerful. modifying the n/a engine to produce real hp or dropping a different type of engine in there will likely be an expensive proposition.

you might consider looking at 944 turbos (951) for real power. or follow the supercharger threads here on pelican...there is one that is pretty current and some here are optimistic of an affordable (reliable?) sc for the n/a.

Cool

the Boxster puts out as much power as the early 944 turbos. Boxster engines are NOT cheap though, and there would be problems fitting it in the 944.

your best bet would be a 944S2 motor. they are the same technology (pretty much) as a Boxster motor.

good luck!

not really. the early boxster engines were rated at 201 hp/181 tq. for comparison, the early 951's are 217 hp/243 tq. that's a significant difference there (especially the tq), and no respecting 951 owner leaves his stock for long. for under $400, mine now runs 260/300. turbo upgradeability is unmatched.

obin is right in that if you were to find a boxster engine, it would be very expensive, and not a very good power value.

I dunno, but I'm thinking that a Boxster engine (even if you had one), would not be a good fit. The Boxster engine is a horizontally opposed flat 6, which was designed to be mounted low in the rear or mid-rear section of the car.

An S2/968 engine is easy to put in a 944. Just find one cheap (if you can) and you can put it in or a mechanic. I was talking about doing this to my mechanic he said it wouldnt be a problem.

WHOOPS! i meant the early 944 S2. thought one thing said, typed the other. yeah i know the engines are about 10hp off from each other, but that's semantic considering the boxster is mid engined and the 944 is front. the weights are close too, but not exact.
