starter fit?

Will a starter from an '87 8v 944 fit my '84 w/automatic tranny?

You can use that starter, the only difference is the later one has a planetary gear drive (like Japanese ones) and are more powerful. But the starters will interchange from the 1980 924 Turbo up to the last 944 Turbo/S2.

Cool, sorry todwic..I guess the mounts and connections are the same but my friends 86 one looks totally diefferent from my old E 85 one...-chris


It makes sense that theyd fit I mean the mounts havent changed...sounds right britwrench

I'll second britwrench. Also I believe the later style is lighter, but it's been a while since I've had the two next to each other.

Yes. Same length but slightly smaller motor diameter and the planetary is evident in the longer motor mounting.
