ok, now everyone knows that VDO odometers sucked monkey butt for about 2 and a half decades. they break, we get pissed.. the story goes on and on.
people develop "fixes" but these don't always work in the long run. i've been looking at my Motometer guage in the Scirocco 16V. i happen to notice that the Motometer needle is the same length as the 924/944 one... and the stuff behind it is about the same size too (i am pretty sure it will fit in the 924/944 speedometer case). how here's where i draw a blank... i'm pretty sure that i would have to modify the speedo cable so that the Motometer would work in the 924/944. that's not a problem. what IS a problem is: 1) calibrating the guage so that the mph would be accurate. 2) is there an audi/vw that has the motometer guages in it that are round like the Porsche ones? maybe the older Sciroccos or Audi 100s? i am also considering ripping out my dashboard in the 924 race car and replacing the whole thing with custom guage clusters. this means i will end up using a motometer speedo anyways.. if i can calibrate it. any help would be appreciated. thanks! obin ------------------ Wij doen niet mee aan de mode. |

Obin, does the cable attatch to the front left wheel like the 944 or the 924? if so, i think it would not have to be calibrated If the tire size from the scirocco (overall diameter) is the same as your 924.

hmm,
the scirocco has 14 or 15" wheels just like the 924 did. something tells me that this might just work ![]() obin |

is it the same gear that goes bad in 924/244 /928 housings if so I could have a batch made up. I'm not shure if they are the same.

i have analyzed these odometers for the longest time and they are just simply a poor design. VDO supplied Porsche with the "Ford Pinto rear bumper" or the "Firestone/Explorer" of odometers.
like many other things VDO, the best fix is to replace it with something made by another company. obin |
