I am looking at buying an 84 n/a 944 and the front bumper is pushed in on one side, not quite flush with the body. there is no other damage that is visible. Does anyone have a recommendations as to what might need to be replaced? Is it just the bumper shock? or is there other potential damage to look for? Any ideas of what it costs to replace or repair this. Mechanically it is in great shape. The car has 68,000 mi on it ,needs paint and the drivers seat is torn. Thanks in advance. I can get the car for about $1,000.00

Depending on what maintenance has been done, and what you are willing to shell out for maintenance...
When was the clutch replaced, or has it been? - What about the balance shafts and all those other fun 944 things? I'd jump all over it in a heart beat. But, you might want to have some reserve capital ($) to get some of those things done if they come up or fail. But, **** yeah, for $1,000 I'd try to barter/deal down then purchase with cash in hand!!!!!!! Good Luck! BTW, where is this car at??? |

thanks. its in calif about 2 miles from my house. The car is with the original owner. I will probably nee to redo the interior because they left it outside for the last 5 years but it is supposed to run well. A friend of mine is a mechanic and he said the guy drove it to work and back about 8 miles per day. It was his wife that bought the car new from a dealer. It hasn't been registered in the last 2 years either.

it probably is just a bumper shock. I'd spend some time very carefully checking for any other repairs in the same area.
other than that, it seems like a great find. that's way below market price for that car. but, like any car that has been sitting, it'll probably need a little work. 2 years is not too long to sit, so there should not be anything major. But change those timing belts immediately unless you have records showing they were just done. As usual, change all the fluids, and inspect all the hoses. use some of the money you saved on the purchase price to replace that seat, repair the bumper, and change timing belts / fluids / hoses. If it's been sitting for over 2 years, it would probably be wise to change the timing belts anyway.

if you buy it, underneath the bumper cover is the crash bar. make sure it's in good shape, not bent. like they said, replace the bumper shock (maybe both).
it could be an excuse (although a bit costly) to upgrade to a turbo bumper! ![]() |

If you're in Southern California, I'll give you a bumper shock for free if you let me drive it around a little

also check the frame rails that lead back to the firewall and carry the engine mounts..for no kinks or wrinkles.. does it run can it be test driven??what is the likelyhood that it will pass emmissions..that is pretty low miles for that age.. is history documented..not just hearsay
