chain tensioner DIY

So, as a minimum, I intend to replace my chain tensioner pad. Clark's garage has this link to what looks like a simple procedure:

http://boerger.golden-tech.com/images/cam_chain_tensioner_replacement.htm

But if I am reading it correctly, I am going to be removing the entire assembly. If so, of course, I'll just replace the assembly and not just the pad. My only reluctance was the involved procedure on Clark's. Can you guys help clear this up?

Incidentally, the above link has some excellent images of this "ticking time bomb". I've set the large image as my desktop background at work as a constant reminder until I make it right.

It's very easy. Just compress the tensioner with your palm, I used a cloth between the two. Then put a piece of wire through the two eye holes to keep it compressed. I just used two small allen wrenches. Then when it is compressed just remove the bolt on the left that has the oil line (don't loose the washer), then take off the bolt that holds the other end of the oil line down (again don't loose the washer). Then take off the two bolts on the right side of the tensioner and slide it out. Then compress the tensioner and remove the pad. The bottom pad I did not change, but it is just held in with two screws from behind. Then just reverse the process. Took like 20min to do. Let me know if you need more info photos or steps.

The one on the right is what I took off. Just ended up putting the new (white) upper guide on the top and put back on. Didn't know the history of the tensioner on the left(off white).

Very helpful, jetmax. Thank you.

I can't really visualize the oil connection. FSM and PET don't show it that well - I guess it will be pretty clear when I get inside.

I am going to go ahead and replace the whole assemby, including J-tube. I can't find it on Pelican. Any suggestions where I should get it?
