Post 83 944 No Oil Pressure At Start Up

My first message, please help. I love my 944 like all of you, almost 20 years old, and the engine has never needed anything! (except motor mounts) Only 150k miles, but lots of abuse. Last week, I started the car and got no oil pressure for a full minute. The sensor and guage are o.k. In the last couple of weeks it has taken about 30 seconds after start-up for oil pressure to show up. I have heard the valves ticking a couple of times.
My mechanic says its the bearings and I'll be lucky to get 2 more months out of it. It still runs well. Yesterday and today the oil pressure came up immediately. It is leaking a drop or two of oil.
Any thought or suggestions?

Oil pressure valve or sending unit?

I am sure you have checked your oil level. After that I would change the oil and the filter for sure and try it. It should come up in at least 10 seconds or much less.
Then check sending unit and gauge and oil pump last I would say.

If your engine is running at all with no oil pressure it should be making god awful noise you'll hear the lifters rattling. If it doesn't make noise then its probably your pressure sending unit

Thank you for the replies. The problem persisted for over a week, and just stopped. Instant oil pressure at start up now for 4 days straight! These amazing cars seem to fix themselves. Maybe she will run forever after all!
Is it possible the oil pressure valve was stuck open and closed by itself? My mechanic who I always thought was a wizard said it was the conecting rod bearings, was he wrong?

JON: Replace your oil filter with an OEM Porsche Oil filter, MAKE SURE it's OEM Porsche. If that doesn't work, then check your, oil check valve thats inside the filters housing, but I bet you'll be suprised after simply changing the filter, same thing happened to me =). I can give you more specific details if you want.
