The old erratic idle topic possibly solved
ok to update my attempts on getting the idle back up to normal again. Looking through previous mechanic recommendations, I found out there is a hairline crack in the intake boot somewhere on the underside.
I have noticed there are hoses connecting to this intake boot. I was wondering how easy is it to take off the boot on this car to replace it? Anyone had the same problem with their car???? it looks like a bizatch to remove to me for some reason...guess its the hoses that are makin' me think that.. http://eurospecporsche944.homestead.com/files/sig2.jpg ------------------ Porsche. It is freakin easy to remove the boot. I don't know if you have a later model or a turbo, but on my early 84 it is very easy. Two large locking rings on the AFM and the Throttle, and two small ones on the underside, where the large vacuum hoses attach.
I had to do it a bunch of times when fixing the AAV and cleaning the throttle body, sure as hell made the idle speed more manageable. E |
if it hasnt been off for a long time you may want to have a new one or at least a tube of goo to seal any tears,ive seen a few older ones rip. mine ripped on the bottom the first time i removed it.it probably had a tear anyway, it was pretty dry rotted. how does your oil cap fit on? if it is not tight it will cause idle problems. many older caps are "belled" out at the bottom or have bad o-rings. mine wasnt on properly once and the idle went up and down till i spotted that. hope it helps! the new boot looks so nice to...
