Yep,i saw it moths ago....

It´s the quarter mile queen! And look the front,it looks like burn plastic!

Two conclusions:

1-people gets bored a lot.
2-people have lots of surplus money

And look the pusher trailer! Ohh my god!!

we can laugh but remember history:

internal combustion power was considered "out there" 120 years ago.

all the pioneers of internal combustion transportation were backyard tinkerers. Dr. Porsche was never afraid to go against conventional practices.

petroleum will be gone as an economical energy source in 30-60 years
what's next? (hope it lasts until DMV says I'm too old to drive)

EV & hybrids will probably be mainstream in 10-15 years.

As an engineer I applaud this guy. Beats scrapping a dead 944. The Fluke meter on the dash says volumes though....

wasn't knocking the project as a whole. the work in the engine compartment was done rather well and a project of this type isn't really all that easy to execute. that's why I figured with all that energy expended on making it work, there should have been a bit more attention paid to the packaging

I wonder how long until hydrogen fuel-cells are the common form of electrical generators. Get a small, effective hydrogen fuel-cell in a 944 that's electric (high-torque electric) you could go further than 20 miles...

or am i being too imaginative?

I have seen this done with a 78 VW Rabbit. The guy used to autocross it and did very, very well for the first 2-3 runs, before he had "limp" home. They always put this guy in his own class, but he was always a second or so faster then my well prepared 84 Rabbit in FSP. 0-50 in this guys electric rabbit was quite shocking!!

on the 944: I think this guy's project is still at tinkering stage; hence less than "factory-fresh" packaging

the problem with hydrogen is that it you get less energy output than btus in. The recently signed bill for hydrogen credits give the biggest tax breaks for extracting hydrogen from petroleum. So 2 pounds oil in; 1 pound hydrogen out. I can't figure how this will solve an energy shortage!

My gut tells me hybrids will get popular; after that LNG refilling infrastructure will get built. Beyond that guys will probably be installing "FusionMasters" and running Porsches on coffee grounds & anti-matter!

NASA, Prius, or Insight quality batteries are still way to expensive for backyard projects. Kind of limits range.

Diesel locomotives use electric motors as prime movers 'cause huge torque they produce.

Get the biggest honking electric motor you can find, put a big transformer under your car, bury 13200V mains under your street and have the world's biggest, fastest slot car.

this has nothing to do with 944s but fun to imagine.....

And how about a nuclear 944?

So you can do about 5000 miles without refuelling.....

1.21 gigawatts?!?! 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!

Marty McFly: So does it run on regular unleaded gasoline?
Dr. Emmett Brown: Unfortunately no, it needs something with a little more kick - plutonium.
Marty McFly: Plutonium... wait, are you telling me that this sucker is nuclear?
Dr. Emmett Brown: No no no, this sucker's electrical, but it requires a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity I need.

Are you telling me that you built a time machine out of a Delorean

"They bought a reactor from the French that used weapons grade uranium. There intent was to just take the fuel and make a bomb."

Yeah damn those French. Giving them Iraqis fuel to make a bomb. We would never do a thing like that. It's not like we gave the Iraqis all the weapons and bio-weapons technology when they were battling the Iranians. Oh wait, we did? Damn.

And if you're gonna build a time machine, you might as well do it in style...

Manute:We finally did it!!!!
Dr. Emmett Brown: And now we have the right choice....no acceleration problems!!!
Manute:Yeah, more than 3 seconds less in the 0-60!
Dr. Emmett Brown:Now let´s got back to 1986 to buy some engine spareparts!

Glad you enjoyed it. I wasn't aware people thought I had no sense of humour - it's warped, granted, prone to self-mockery and irony but it's there if people take the time to look. Glad you looked.

As for my open-mindedness - I'll read anybody's point of view if it's backed up with factual representation. I think you're being a little hard on Gorbachov - were it not for him opening the door a crack Russia would not be on the slow haul progressing towards Westernized understanding. Mind you ... they probably aren't so keen on the Western-style organized crime that came with it.
