AC compressor died, buy rebuilt one?
The AC compressor in my car decided to go out on me. I think that a bearing in it seized up cause the pully to no longer turn. Should I buy a rebuilt AC compressor, a used compressor, or try to get mine refurbished or fix it myself?
I was driving around and all of a sudden smoke started coming from my hood for about 5 seconds. After that when the AC was off, there was a sorta clunking sound that came from the compressor. When the AC was on and the compressor engaged it would whine a whole lot. The whining just kept getting worse and worse until the belt just snapped. I think that something seized up inside. |
With the car and power off it will turn. I am not sure how it is supposed to turn, but it feels like the pully is loose. The pully itself wobbles a bit and it feels like it is a bit rough while turning it, but it is easy to turn.

So I need the rebuilt compressor and the clutch? Would this be what I need?
Or would I need a clutch also, or just the clutch? |
