why do people trash talk the Borla exhaust? Obin said that it makes the 944 sound like a race car. Thats the kinda sound i'm looking for on mine. a 'racey' sound means there is little to no restriction on the exhaust system. Seeing that i have an intake, I already have that deep note in the muffler. But if i go with a Bursch I'm willing to bet it'll sound like i got a 4 cylinder crauch rocket on my hands.

cool! tell us how you like it. i myself like it because it gives me a big grin when the car gets into the higer RPMs. there's something about a high winding 4 cylinder that i like more than a 6 cylinder. the Bursch has a really throaty sound which some people may think is a bit odd for a Porsche. once it revs up it just screams. it's a bit different than what you may be used to, but i love it. i remember when before i moved, when i'd come home and i'd have to get out of the car to get the mail. i'd leave it running and the whole time the Bursch exhaust would sound so damn cool.
on other cars (911s) i hear negative comments on the Bursch systems. on others (924/944) i hear positive things. i don't know why... but if you want to hear the inside of my 924 with the Bursch, check my web page in the MP3 section ![]() obin |

Hey guys I'm not knocking the Bursch exhaust but whats so special about it? I bought my P-Car from the PO with a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler already on it, I know these are common place but it runs and sounds fine to me especially at high RPM. Mine is starting to rust on the outside a bit but replacement cost is reasonable if not down right inexpensive.

I have a Bursch exhaust on my 83 944 and I'm very impressed with it. It sounds much better than stock. The sound is not annoying at cruising speed, nor through the neighborhood in the early morning. But when you get on it, it sounds really good.
I agree with the sounding like a race car now. Along with the cone filter i put on, my car sounds great! It also feels like my engine is "happier". |

I had a bursch on my 944S - it was ok - definitely sounded much better. The muffler it self is just a stock dynomax muffler probably available for less than $100 from Pep Boys. Its also mild steel and won't be as resistant to rust as the factory system. On the other hand, it is a lot lighter and souns great! I got mine from GPR to - they are great people.

I will have my custom fabed exhaust installed tommorow. Local shop is going to bend pipe, weld flanges and glasspack w/stainless tip. Total cost, $150. Will be dumping my Ansa exhaust w/1500 dry mile on it.

I made a mistake with my exhaust. I bought a muffler system designed for a universal application. It looks okay because I brought it to a muffler shop and he built me some piping and welded the whole system to rid it of rattles and leaks. Anyways, it is a dual tip design and is polished and has a sort of chrome look. It sounds okay I guess, just a touch of rice though, which is NOT cool. But at idle and after 4.000 RPM it is awesome! Cruising is annoying though, but after investing 250$ into it I dont feel like doing anything more. The guy who welded everything together said he could have built me a whole system with highflow muffler and catback piping for about 150$. My mistake, but I am settling for what I have. My girlfriend is upset everytime she rides in the car though, "Why'd you have to make it louder?" Some people just dont understand! So my suggestion is take it to a muffler specialist who can build you a whole custom system for much cheaper, and you'll get more power that way as well.

Bursch exhaust is sold in three different components, headers, test pipe, muffler. Headers replace your exhaust manifold and are bigger and give you at least ten hp. The muffler gives you at least ten to fifteen hp in my opinion. The first thing i noticed when i put my muffler on was the rpms jumping up faster because i was accelerating faster.I thought it was definitely worth the money, it was more than what i expected.

From that pic, it looks like a plain jane pipe, which in my opinion is ugly. I like the looks of my stock tip.
Could i like weld the old tip onto the bursch one? Porsche, through and through Tim '83 944 http://community.webshots.com/user/strayer15 http://www.geocities.com/tstray15/Home.html |
